US to Require COVID Testing
Beginning January 26th, pre-departure COVID-19 testing will be required for all inbound travelers coming to the United States, including U.S. passport holders. Prior to boarding flights to the U.S., passengers will be required to provide either a negative test result obtained within three days prior to departure, or proof of having been infected with the virus and recovered. This procedure is already in place for travelers coming from the U.K., and comes after evidence of multiple COVID-19 variants have surfaced around the world. Experts believe that the variants may prove to have a higher transmission rate, and so the new restrictions aim to combat increased infection rates.
The World Travel and Tourism Council has recently called for the removal of “unnecessary quarantines,” and has suggested they be replaced with new travel measures, including testing. The WTTC feels that negative test results ensure safe travel and the organization also suggests that rapid testing be made available at airports worldwide at an affordable price.
