Airlines Begin to Assist with Contact-Tracing

International travelers arriving in the United States on United Airlines flights this week will be asked to voluntarily provide data at check-in for contact-tracing efforts.

At check-in, passengers will be asked to provide their email address, phone number and address of where they are staying to the airline.  In the event that an infectious passenger is found to have traveled on a flight, the CDC will have immediate access to the data to aid in contact-tracing.   The program will begin with only international flights this week before expanding to all United Airlines flights in the next few weeks.

While United Airlines is the first major U.S. carrier to announce this initiative on all flights, Delta has also begun a similar procedure this week for their international flights arriving in the U.S. as well.

Alaska Airlines ‘Safety Dance’
A new promotional video from Alaska Airlines with a parody of the popular 1980’s Men Without Hats song, ‘Safety Dance’, aims to help restore traveler confidence in air travel.  The song highlights the airline’s safety standards and will begin airing on all flights in January.  Alaska airlines hopes this fun and exciting campaign will help encourage customers to “safely get back out there in spring and summers 2021.”
